Cities of Repetition Book (2020-2024)

(2019-Present) This is a on-going book project I am helping work on with the book’s main author’s Christian Lange and Jason Carlow, which documents the building design and typology of Hong Kong’s ten largest housing estate. My role involved reviewing the original plans of these towers and identifying ways in which they are similar and dissimilar in order to identify building typologies, in addition to revising/reconstructing the floor plan drawings for the book.

During COVID 2020-2021, I worked as a part-time graphic designer and research assistant for Prof. Christian Lange for his book “Cities of Repetition”. The book documented Hong Kong’s various housing estates, and their floorplans which were dictated by a quasi-formal unit system of pre-designed apartment plans that the housing authority board used over the years. The book was published recently, and published in print in Hong Kong. I worked on the logging, research and documentation of these unit types and developed the first few drafts of the visual design system, i.e. the color-coding schema, the layout, etc. This work began my interest in design systems and data visualization. Below are some of the samples of our first drafts.
